On May 16 and 17, the CSSC held a training course on innovative investigative techniques and strategies in the fight against trafficking in human beings, aimed at police departments (including those involved in international cooperation) dealing with this issue.
The event was organized by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trento in collaboration with the Centre of Security and Crime Sciences of the Universities of Trento and Verona and was carried out within the framework of the EU project “BIGOSINT” (coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trento).
The morning of the first day was dedicated to European approaches to international cooperation, and to technological investigative tools (data analysis and correlation software, OSINT tools, investigative techniques on Deep Web and Crypto Wallet Analysis); in the afternoon a simulation in a virtual reality environment took place.
The second day started with the differences between human trafficking and human smuggling (based on national legislation and recent judgments of the Court of Cassation) as well as on the impact of the digital society on the criminal phenomenon (by Gabriele Baratto). The last part of the course was dedicated to operational approaches to document verification, with a practical exercise workshop using various tools, including portable and laboratory equipment and open databases.
